reserve.arctic.tf — On-demand TF2 servers (Preview)

reserve.arctic.tf is a preview of on-demand competitive TF2 server reservations, creating a fresh cloud instance for each reservation across 45+ locations.

What is it?

reserve.arctic.tf is an on-demand server reservation system for competitive Team Fortress 2. It comes pre-loaded with RGL, ETF2L, ozfortress, and other competitive configs. Just pick a location, reserve, and play.

The underlying software is open source under AGPL-3.0: github.com/cometsmarsblackberry/summon

How does it work?

Unlike existing services that keep servers running 24/7 and assign you one when you reserve, reserve.arctic.tf creates a brand new cloud instance for every reservation. When you're done, the instance is destroyed.

This means we can offer more locations — currently 45+ across 6 continents, including regions where it wouldn't make sense to run servers around the clock.

The tradeoff is that provisioning takes a bit longer (~2–3 minutes) compared to joining an always-on server. I'm working on making this faster.

How to use it?

  1. Go to reserve.arctic.tf and sign in with Steam.
  2. Pick a location (sortable by ping) and a starting map, then hit reserve.
  3. Wait ~2–3 minutes for your server to spin up, then connect.
  4. Use chat commands in-game: !config to load a competitive config, !changemap to switch maps, !end to end your reservation.

Future

This is a preview release, so expect rough edges. I'm actively listening to feedback. Some things already on the roadmap:

  • Faster server provisioning
  • More locations
  • More configs (on request)
  • Support for MVM, MGE and other game modes
